Have You Been RE-Toxing All Holiday Season?
Now's the Time for a DETOX!
Did you go OVERBOARD during the holidays? Just how badly did you "RE-TOX" this holiday season? Did you know that a glass of eggnog with rum and brandy clocks in at 800 calories? Or how about that champagne cocktail you downed on New Year's Eve? 250 calories a pop! And did you know you were devouring a whopping 7,000 calories at your festive holiday dinner? (That's 2 POUNDS of Food!) The average American gains several pounds during the month of December. No wonder your pants don't zip up and you're feeling sluggish and bloated!
According to Dr. Susan Yanovski, Executive Director of the National Task Force on the Treatment and Prevention of Obesity, often the poor eating habits practiced during the holidays are difficult to readjust once the New Year is upon us. It's okay to indulge a little over the holidays but make sure you get right back on track after the New Year. Don't let 5 or 10 lbs become 15 or 20 lbs.
It's important to set realistic health goals when you're setting you're New Year's Resolutions. The biggest reason people don't attain their weight loss goals is because they set unrealistic expectations for themselves. Then when they don't see results immediately, they get frustrated and give up. (Not that we've EVER done that before!) So instead, set yourself up for success. Set a realistic goal of losing 1-2 lbs a week. Exercise for Energy and Vitality instead of being Scale Obsessed.
One way to get back on track to a healthy body is with a detox program. Even if you didn't gain weight, you probably ate foods that were not on your normal, everyday diet. Your body has been working hard to digest excess animal fats and proteins, and the overindulgence on sweets and alcohol. These all take a toll on your whole digestive and elimination system.
A detoxification program is a surefire way to cleanse your entire physical system and start the New Year with a clean slate. Just as we get an oil change for our cars or our teeth cleaned every 6 months, it's essential to cleanse your internal system as well. The use of detox herbs and colon hydrotherapy act to remove built up toxins that result from poor eating habits. Remember to keep drinking lots of water throughout the day to help flush excess toxins from your system.
When you're getting back into your exercise routine, consider finding an exercise buddy and to choose an exercise you enjoyÑso you'll actually do it! Schedule your exercise times into your daily schedule and keep this appointment with yourself just as you would with anyone else.
